Day four and more blessings!

Today is day four and we are still seeing God work in everything! Jace came through surgery very well and Dr Sponseller was pleased with the surgery. Jace had a few bumps to get through the first few hours after surgery, like getting mad and holding his breath until he passed out:( He did this two times and it was scary to watch! Never fun to see a nurse grabbing for CPR things and oxygen. But he stopped doing that after a few hours.

The night before he would wake up every hour saying he was scared and for me to hold him, that was a hard time. But we would pray and he would go back to sleep. The next day, which was the 17th, yesterday (have to keep things in order for my sake!) he stayed up all day. He was active with his arms and watched Cars and Toy Story. But he could never calm down enough to go to sleep. Finally, last night, we gave him some good meds and he crashed out...for the whole night!! Yipee! He needs to sleep so he can heal. Dewey (grandpa) stayed with him over night and I got to sleep at the house we are staying. And have I mentioned that the house we are staying at is only a half block away:) We can run back and forth easily, such a beautiful simple blessing from our great God!! He always knows what we need:)

Today, after a good nights sleep, he has been eating well, playing with his cars and talking with us. We pray he continues to do so well. The pain management team came in today and stated that he is doing great and one of the best they have seen. Praise GOD!! Jace has been able to endure because of God leading him through, easing the pain and giving Jace grace as only God can give! Because of God, and His grace of giving us Jesus! Nothing that we can earn, just His gift!

This hospital that God has blessed us with is amazing too! The staff and doctors are knowledgable and we have had no problems at all. The rooms all have bathrooms and it's a private room. They have a food court with many choices that are healthy:) State of the art hospital:)

We wanted to share our daily routine with you so you can get a glimpse of what it's like here.
1. Pin Care: This is when the nurses clean and dress the pins that go directly into his pelvic bone to hold it in place. they have to push back the skin also so it does not attach to the pins. this is very painful for Jace and it takes about 5 mins. to get it all done.
2. Changing bedding and diapers: Since Jace can't bend at the waist three nurses have to pick him straight up into the air, change the bedding and diaper (fast!) and then put him back down on the bed. this has become known as "flying" to Jace:) It is painful while happening but it must feel nice to get some air to his back, because he asks to do it again when they get done:)
3. Taking Oral Meds.: Right now he has to take 4 different meds at different times of the day. He doesn't like it:/

Prayer requests:
1. For Jace to continue to do well with pain meds. and to continue to be still so he can heal well. Also for rest for him.
2. For Danny, myself, Mary and Dewey as we take shifts and communicate to each other the happenings, and to continue to be able to get rest when needed.
3. For Ian (3) he misses his brother and playing with him. We have them Facetime each other daily, but it's not the same.
4. Continued wisdom for the doctors and nurses to do what is the best for Jace

Thank you for praying! If you want to follow on Facebook we have a page for Jace called Prayer Warriors for Jace. His second surgery is on the 29th.

Our first day of appointments

Hello from Baltimore! Yes, we made it here and praising God for it! We had a great flight here and a whirlwind tour of baltimore on our way to our new home:) Our shuttle driver was very informative about places that we could go to get groceries and places for Danny and Ian to visit while here.
We are so blessed with the house our God has provided! Its wonderful! Three bedroom to accommodate the help that is coming, ie, Grandparents and friends, and one and a half bath, only a half a block away from where Jace is going to be after surgery!
Today we had our first appointments with the anesthesiologist and Dr. Sponseller. Jace checked out ok for the surgery on Wednesday, which we were a little concerned about since we had all been sick llast week, but he is ok! We then sw Dr. Sponseller, the Orthopedic surgeon. He was great to talk with and very informative. He was very pleased that Jace had such strong legs:) He felt Jace would do well with the surgery!
We grabbed a bite to eat and then Jace had his lab work done. That ended up being a longer day than expected! But very encouraging!
The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 am, which we will be arriving at 5:30 am for prep. work! Yikes! However I was under the impression that the first surgery was going to take a while but it will only be 2-3 hours! Just want to get this done! It's all been in God's timing and that is who we are leaning on GOD!
My wonderful husband helped keep the boys entertained while doing all of this today, so blessed to be able to have him with us!!
On to tomorrow...we will meet with Dr. Gearhart just to touch base but that's all for tomorrow!  I see naps in tomorrows forcast:)
Thank you all for the comments and wonderful support! We love hearing encouragement:) We are so blessed to have all of you with us for this journey. We are praising our Great God for the things He hath done and are looking forward to our future through Him!
With love and through Christ,
The Wakleys

Four more days, Lord willing!

Hello Friends!
We are four days away from leaving for Baltimore for the big surgery! If the Lord wants us to go He will make it happen:) We have been down with the Flu for four days but we are getting better. Beginning to pack and get our thoughts in order.
Our wonderful Worship ministry at Riverpark sent us to Disneyland for a fun and eventful few days! We had a great time together riding rides and Praising God for the fun he had provided for us before we left on our 2-3 month journey.

We had such a good time! Jace and Ian said that their favorite ride was Dumbo!

As we are getting ready please pray for clear thoughts on everything that we will and might need:) And that our flights don't get delayed. Danny and the boys and I will be leaving this Friday Jan. 10 and arriving at Baltimore at 4:30 pm. We will have time to get settled for a few days and then we will have appointments on Monday for Jace. We have decided to stay at a home that is on Johns Hopkins campus called the McElderry house. They actually own four homes for families to stay at while at Hopkins. Danny's parents will come out the on Tuesday and Jace's surgery will be on Wednesday January 15th, Lord willing he is still well and doesn't have a cold.
Our dear friend Alysa, who is a NICU nurse, will be flying out to help the Sunday after surgery and staying for four days. And then my parents from Indiana will come out for a few weeks to help out. Our other dear friend Sue, will be coming also to help with the shifts:) So wonderful how God provided these loving people into our lives!
We are excited, and trusting in our Great God to lead us through this time. We just want Jace to be able to put this surgery behind him and move on:) It is hard to imagine, while I write this, how immobile he will be following the surgery. Two months on his back in traction seems unreal right now to me. God knows the plans and we will keep our eyes on Him!
Some specific prayer requests:
* That everyone would get well before we leave and stay well!
* Safety on our journey out to Baltimore
* For the Lord to prepare our hearts, all of our hearts for how to help Jace and keep our eyes on our Lord.
* For finances to come from the Lord for housing and meals while we are there.

For anyone who would like the address of where we will be staying, this is the office of the home: The McElderry House
Attn: The Wakleys
2000 McElderry St, Baltimore, MD 21205

We have been overwhelmed by our family, friends and church family! We are humbled by your love and caring for us:) In Christ, The Wakleys

Happy 2nd Birthday Jace!

Happy Birthday to our sweet Jace! We can't believe you are two! We are honored and blessed to be the parents God chose for you before the beginning of time. He is a great and marvelous God! He is always faithful and always good. We pray that you come to know Him soon, and to call Him your Lord and Savior! We can't wait to see what this year holds for you:)
Your favorite things to do right now are play with Buzz Lightyear (you are constantly saying,"To Infinity and Beyond!"), you like anything with wheels, you have started wrestling with your brother and love it! Your favorite foods are bananas, toast, applesauce and of course honey:) But you really like just about anything.
We love you Jay Bird!

In HIS PERFECT timing!

Hello Friends!
We have been so blessed with the time we have been given these past few weeks. It's incredible to know and understand that God sees us, knows our situation and is providing daily! We have gained more understanding about His Sovereignty and His eternal love for us. His grace that He has been pouring out has been an amazing, overwhelming feeling for all of us.

Since we have had time to evaluate the situation with more prayer, we have decided that Ian will be going along for the journey! The anxiety has already begun to lift for this momma! praise God for clear and precise confirmation!

We just found out today that the surgery dates are confirmed! The first surgery will be on January 15th and the second on the 29th. We can start to plan and get in on some cheaper airline flights:) Yay!
HIS timing is ALWAYS PERFECT!

Thank you so much for your prayers and love! We will keep you updated.

The Wakleys :)
